ASSISI

From Roma,  Civitavecchia or Florence, 8 hours or 12 hours, Medioeval City tour, Umbria tour

A visit to the Umbrian town of Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, is like going back to the 12th century. The town still retains its ancient rhythms. Apart from religious buildings too important to not be considered solely the heritage of Assisi such as the basilica of St. Francis, the tourist can also visit the churches of St. Clare and St. Peter.

All those who have the good luck of visiting this splendid town have to agree with who says that the beauty of Assisi goes beyond a short, and necessarily incomplete list of works of art more or less extraordinary, but is however to be found in the atmosphere of places which the story and the faith of the Saint have rendered unique all over the world.

Umbria is known also for the peculiar and strong tradition of food and wines; it is impossible to avoid eating the famous pasta with tartufo (strangozzi) or to try the delicious meat served in all restaurants of this region. Umbria is made up of hills, then it is the land of grapefruits and a taste of its typical wines will make you feel the smell and taste of this land.
